This summer I bumped into a friend on the beach. She’d just come back from her first festival and was gushing about what an amazing, freeing time she’d had. I’d never seen her smile so wide!

She told me later, “Camp Bestival was an absolute joy. Men with fluffy tails on, women in head-to-toe sequins and sparkles. So much colour! I loved the acceptance that people could just free their inner creative and playful self. How different the world would be if we could all dress with the same freedom and lack of inhibition on a daily basis! I suspect how people dress at festivals is more reflective of how they might like to dress more often without social constraint and fear of judgement! There seems to be something about festivals that embraces vibrancy… for just a few days you live in full colour, high definition!!”

I love festivals. Everyone at a festival is happy and free, covered in glitter and sequins and feathers and flowers, dancing to their heart’s content without a care in the world. I wish people felt equally safe expressing their most authentic, fun selves all the time!

During lockdown, I discovered Burnt Soul on Instagram. Unable to attend festivals or parties of any kind, I instead treated myself to this glorious custom catsuit (and a few other items of theirs too!). When I wear it, I feel indestructible, I feel like I glow and sparkle. If I’m having a bad day, or need to force myself to do the housework, I stick it on and can’t help but smile.

What would you do if you weren’t worried about what other people might think?

What does your festival self tell you? How could you bring that knowledge to create more joy in your whole life?
